Bringing Buyers and Sellers

We are pleased to announce that Kristin O’Brien and Harold Croteau of Townsend, Mass. have purchased the former Mont Vernon General Store property at 8 and 10 Main Street in Mont Vernon from Monadnock Community Bank.

Kristin plans to re-open the store at 10 Main Street as “Fishbone’s Country Store”. She and her husband plan to rehabilitate the residence at 8 Main Street as a rental property.

When she has the store up and running again it will be a full service convenience store with deli, beer and wine, dairy products, lottery, and all the normal in-store items. She does not plan to offer gasoline and will be removing the current out-of-service tanks and pump. She does plan to offer ice cream, homemade local items like baked goods, fudge, goat cheese, bread, and locally grown produce and farm fresh eggs.   She says “I want to make Fishbone's a destination rather than just a convenience store. It should be a place to bring the kids on Saturday for an ice cream and the place to buy party needs”. Additionally she will be looking for local handmade items, Mont Vernon specific craft items, and in the future will be planning small classes in home crafts and small animal raising.   Kristin has a retail background as a small store manager, as well as being in the small farm business with her husband raising a variety of small animals including emu, and goats and rabbits. Kristin is also a comedienne, and is looking to host a comedy night at the store.   Leon Parker, President of NH Business Sales, who was instrumental in putting this deal together says, “I am particularly pleased to find a buyer who wants to preserve the historic nature of the store and continue to provide convenience store items for the people of the town”.   Parker said, “I have confidence that Kristin will be able to run it successfully”.   New Hampshire Business Sales is the state’s premier statewide business brokerage firm. The company has assisted owners of privately-held NH businesses in valuing, marketing, and selling their businesses since 1976.
